working on extras -  /23/09/2024/ - didn't want to add much as don't know what I could that would enhance it - not a strings or synthy song, prefer to be minimal - referred to connecting dots and dry as a bone to see how I did it there without it sounding bare and boring - produced it more (EQ and reverb) and helped but still wasn't sure - went down rabbit hole of plugins - added vocal enhancer to make voice better - if used too much, just made it sound like over an old phone or radio and so probably just increases higher frequencies of recording - used anyway might take off later but turned down the mix to 25% as it still sounded brighter. I selected modern as the warm tone sounded too muted for the song and I didn't like it in context. Atlhough modern sounds a bit strange out of context, it sounds normal in context. To be honest, my ears might be broken after listening to it for ages so I'll make another judgement tomorrow when I've had time to get used to no...

Luna Light

LUNA LIGHT: Vocals: Because of the lower notes, I decided to record this in the morning as voices are deeper in the morning as your larynx has lowered over night due to not being used (it gets higher in the day as it's used). I struggled to sing the higher notes as I've been working a lower larynx with my singing teacher to improve my technique and health of the way that I sing. The way that I helped to solve this was by simply having some water and doing some sirens up and down my range to exercise my larynx a bit and get it used to having to move as this song has a very big range.

Hey Mister

HEY MISTER: Guitar: I struggled with the chords on this song as I included a C# minor which is a bar chord on the fourth fret whereas all my other chords were at the top of the neck. Due to this, I found myself having to rerecord the guitar despite thinking it was finished as I often missed this chord and it sounded muted. It's good that I went back to it anyway though due to me having to edit and fix the timing. I wrote this song before I could properly play guitar and so I had no sense of timing when playing which meant it was hard to pin point where the chords should go on the recording. I ended up following the vocal recording which I've never done before. Even so, I had to split the chords from one another and spend a lot of time moving them around slightly trying to get the perfect timing. Luckily, it's only one chord per bar at the beginning and so it didn't affect the fluency.  Once I edited the guitar to where I wanted it, I rerecorded it in order to fix the ...

Gravity

GRAVITY: Bass: I managed to include more passing notes as I felt it fitted better with the song. What's funny is I changed the key of the song and so was having to rerecord the bass (I changed it as the lower key fitted my voice better) and so originally, to see what it sounded like, I had a pitch shifter on the track down a tone. When listening back to my recording, I accidentally left the pitch shifter on and so it sounded terrible, clashing with everything but this gave me the idea to have two basses and for one to only play sometimes and make it more impactful as I'd use the pitch shifter for it to be an octave lower than the other.  The only problem I had with this is due to having a lot of notes in the bass line, although sounding fine for the normally pitched bass, this made the lower bass sound muddy and so I got around this by rerecording it with a simpler bass line with one or two notes per bar and so it was still impactful but without the muddiness.  I wrote the str...

PERSONAL PROJECT

Image
PLAN:   I'm recording a 14 track album of my own original songs. I will record all of the instruments whether MIDI or real other than the drums which will be programmed by my dad although I will always have the final say and direct him in the way that I want the drums to sound or how much I want them in specific parts of songs. I will record at home using a focusrite and a free DAW called Bandlab. I'll record ghost tracks for all the songs and then this will be the basis for the drums, MIDI and all the recordings. I'll then mix the tracks and add any plugins/effects that I think enhance the sound and then I'll use the AI mastering feature offered on Bandlab for the finish. I plan to release it at the end of October using Ditto Music and then I will use social media (Facebook, Instagram and Youtube) for promotion. I want to create and release an album because I want to create a career in recording and performing my own music and I also would like to move on to university...

Robot

ROBOT EXTRAS -  - adding synths to build up the sound more so more contrast and impact when it is more minimalist. Adding strings synth to try out different sounds and then will record with real strings once happy.  - two violins, only one at beginning as has to build and starts too much too sudden - take off pre chorus as more of a bare bit where the lyrics are more desperate and hopeless and so sadder with the lack of support and just having a very bare sound - I also tried taking out the bass and guitar but it sounded too bare then and I didn't like it - sounded too bare without any violins so added them back in but only one violin and for only every other bar - gives the first taste of the minimalist sounds without completely giving it away before the chorus  - no violins for last bar before chorus but add lots of reverb for the obvious strip down of instruments and more impact when the chorus comes with a lower dynamic  - second part of pre chorus - added ...

D10 - Marketing Skills

Marketing Skills: Video: The Importance of Storyboards: (and how to storyboard) Using a DSLR from college is important in order to be able to film depth of field and have different things in focus at different times. On your phone, you can take pictures using portrait mode - on a camera, you can film with this done manually and so change the focus on the lens.  Lower aperture - Smaller depth of field Higher aperture - Larger depth of field - Using actor for music video - Confusing so intriguing and then makes sense at the end  - Fairly cheap to make = skills comes with the editing (on the beat, screen goes red before chorus (makes you know blood and he's bleeding without seeing blood))  - Three sections  - 1 is based on phones and social media and high quality, special effects, symbolic - 2 staged on stage, very dark  - 3 is happy, 50s style, there is hope This is a video that I created - I did it by splitting up the video into multiple bits and pieces and then ...

Plan for Personal Project

- outline: I'm recording a 14 track album of my original songs. I am writing all the songs myself with input from my Dad with advice on how to improve them of which I can either reject or utilise. He will do the drums by programming a drum machine on Bandlab of which I have the final say on and I'm writing the other instruments' parts as well as any effects or extra little bits and pieces.  - how it is gonna work: I write the songs and then record them as a ghost track where it's all in time but not necessarily perfect playing/singing (e.g., I forget the words in some ghost tracks). He adds the drums when he can and I tell him what I want him to change (if anything). I rerecord the guitar with it being good playing and in time and then I add bass to it and once I'm happy with those, I record the vocals. After that, I work on the extra instruments such as midi and synths and little details and then I mix the track and add the AI mastering that Bandlab offers.  - main...
