 working on extras -

- didn't want to add much as don't know what I could that would enhance it - not a strings or synthy song, prefer to be minimal

- referred to connecting dots and dry as a bone to see how I did it there without it sounding bare and boring

- produced it more (EQ and reverb) and helped but still wasn't sure

- went down rabbit hole of plugins

- added vocal enhancer to make voice better - if used too much, just made it sound like over an old phone or radio and so probably just increases higher frequencies of recording - used anyway might take off later but turned down the mix to 25% as it still sounded brighter. I selected modern as the warm tone sounded too muted for the song and I didn't like it in context. Atlhough modern sounds a bit strange out of context, it sounds normal in context. To be honest, my ears might be broken after listening to it for ages so I'll make another judgement tomorrow when I've had time to get used to normal sounds.

- Whole thing too much treble and sounded bare and empty

-  I took the vocal enhancer off as it sounded too artificial

- I also used EQ to change the bass guitar's tone as I now know in future I need to do this on the actual guitar to prevent the original recording from having too much treble - adding more bassy sounds make it less bare?

- Added more bass frequencies to guitar EQ too to try to make it warmer

- I'm still struggling a lot with this track
- I did the same for the EQ on the drums and I think it's made more of a difference

- I got a notification from Bandlab about a competition of creative the best vocal preset on Bandlab which lead me to exploring the presets on Bandlab and finding one called "Bass Boost" which i liked because it compresses my vocal which I couldn't figure out how to do. I might not necessarily use it all the time and I'll probably edits bits and pieces but I definitely feel like I've made progress and explored the DAW more by looking at the presets.

After struggling a LOT with this vocal, I got help from my teacher who exported the vocal track to Logic and then showed me the EQ, Compression and Reverb on there and I then mixed the vocal to my preference. I put it back in Bandlab and wasn't sure at first but then listened to the Bandlab version and then the Logic version a couple days later and the Logic version was IMMENSLY better. I shall be using Logic for my vocals from now on. It will mean I'll have to manage my time differently as I only have Logic at college but I can do that.
