Collaborative Project
Podcast:
I was involved in editing the psychology podcast that's being produced for the college. Devon (who is mainly recording and editing it) wasn't in on the day that it was going to be edited so he asked me to fill in for him. It was difficult as I hadn't used the studio in a while and so it took me a while to figure out how to get the sound to properly come out of the speakers from Logic on the computer. After a while, I asked my teacher and he sent someone with me and it was a simple thing of turning the Logic volume up on the faders on the mixer. After that, I felt quite stressed out but Diane (the psychology teacher) was very understanding and so then we edited the podcast which I think went very well. We listened through and she explained to me which bits she thought ought to be cut in order to make the episode shorter and it was very productive and we managed to finish it by the end of the session.
The only other problem that arose was that one of the voices was really quiet and this was because I hadn't changed the output of on Logic - luckily, we fixed this and it worked after that.
Promotion:
I contacted the other three acts playing at Artbank and asked them for footage for me to put onto the College Student Instagram. So far, only one person has got back to me which was Ellen from HeartFog where Lydia sent me the videos and I've edited them into a 20-30 second clip of one of their performances. I did this by having multiple camera angles as she sent me multiple filmed angles from the performance and I switched between them and the difficult part about this was making sure the overlayed clip was synced properly to the audio so that it made sense. I also added a vignette to all the clips to make it seem a bit more professional and the multiple camera angles also provided a sense of interest which is more likely to hook viewers than if it was just one camera angle. I also blurred the screen horizontally and then vertically for one of the lines to make it more effective like it might be in a music video to again add that interest. The biggest struggle I had here was that I made the whole thing and went to export it and then the site crashed and deleted everything. However, the second time round of making it, I did improve the placement of the first clip to be more central so it did slightly improve the clip.
Christmas Concert:
For the Christmas Concert, I wanted to be able to do one of my original songs but to enhance it by including the folk group. In order to do this, I wrote two violin parts as well as a double bass part in which were used to not only add those instruments but also a guide for any other instruments that joined (e.g., banjo, piano). Here is a copy of the sheet music that I wrote out for the strings:
Battle of the Bands:
I wanted to enter a competition of Battle of the Bands but I didn't have a band and so I asked Tyler and Alfie if they could play drums and bass for me and they agreed. We started rehearsing almost immediately and I sent them the three tracks on our group chat so that we could rehearse outside of times that we're able to rehearse together. We booked rooms and managed to rehearse for most days in the two weeks before the gig. Tyler had the drums already set on the tracks to follow which he used as a guide and I think it worked very well. Here is a recording of one of our rehearsals.
Strings at Unplugged:
For Unplugged, Josh Simpson was organising us to play Hey Jude and, for this, he was supposed to write out string parts. I played the melody (violin) off of a book where the music wasn't entirely written out correctly but that was meant to be only temporary. He eventually told me that he doesn't think we will do Hey Jude for Unplugged because he hasn't written out a viola part and he isn't going to but I really want to play this piece at Unplugged because I enjoy it so I just said I'd do it and I rewrote out the violin part (it was mostly the same as the sheet music I was using accept a note change and I took a couple of unnecessary lines out) and added a viola part.
