Luna Light Christmas Concert

I wanted to do one of my own songs at the Christmas concert but I don't have a band to perform with and so, there wouldn't be enough people on stage. Dan mentioned one day about us playing our own projects at folk group and so I decided to write violin parts for my song "Luna Light" so that I would be able to play it not only at the Christmas concert but also as like a full on thing with a whole arrangement which I thought would be really epic and cool.

I started by writing parts for two violins and I was originally going to do this by recording them with MIDI onto my Bandlab project but I soon realised that I wasn't good enough at timing to do this and so I instead wrote it straight onto sheet music using Musescore on my computer which was much simpler for me to use.

I didn't have the violins come in until the pre chorus as I didn't think they were needed until then and that's when the song really starts to build and I had them play staccato crotchets on the beat as the guitar plays fast quavers throughout those bars. I have the violins in harmony pretty much the whole way through the song as it adds more texture than if they're playing the same note. To help progress the parts along, I sang the song to the part to help me see what it would sound like. I added small bits in between my singing where the 1st violin does small melodies to make it more interesting which I thought sounded cool.

I also used my knowledge of the violin to make sure that it wasn't awkward to play. Luckily, I am a violinist and so I just made sure that whatever I wrote was something that I would be able to play. I took this to my folk group where we had one violinist that day and she played one of the parts and it sounded AWESOME and I got really excited because it just sounded so cool.

Dan mentioned about some bass parts and he mentioned about double bass which I know he plays and so I was all for writing a part for double bass because that would add to the depth and just make it even more awesome with all of the textures and the way the music spreads and comes together and things. However, I went to write the music for the double bass part when I realised that I can't play double bass and so don't understand where all the notes are. The fear here is that I'd write something that's awkward, difficult or even impossible to play. To remedy this, I emailed Dan to help me as he would be the one playing it anyway and I didn't want to make his life extremely difficult.
