making website

My colour scheme I think will be sepia, beige colours with the odd bit of colour which might mainly be purples. I think that logo should be maybe capital letters in my handwriting or something as it would make it recognisable.

Overal branding and approach:

Design - colour, logo, font,

sepia and light blues/purples?

authenticity

For my website, I'm going to have a colour scheme based around sepia with dimmed down colours on it but having elements of brighter blues and purples to represent the ways in which my music sounds and is performed. My logo will be my name written in an old book font.

SAY WHY.

Maybe splashes of brighter colours? Like paint splatters or water droplets onto a page.

This is to represent the elements of folk in my music mixed in with the electronic elements of my production.

I like the ivy in the background of this image - I think I could design a logo or base my website around the idea of ivy to show the idea of the folk routes to my music despite it having an electric sound.

I like the bright blues and purples in this picture which are quite strikingly different to the folk feel above which means I'll have to come to a compromise between the two styles.

One of the ideas I had was to have water splatters revealing the other one (e.g., sepia folk feel with paint splatters of brighter colours/vice versa).

I could also use this idea for my logo.

I've included this image as I want to include water in some way to show it going into another world as though it's some kind of escapism as that represents how I use my music.
I could use a colour scheme more based on the colours of the tracks on Bandlab when I make music which is rather colourful.

I don't want it to be too striking - I want it to have the chill feel of a folk aesthetic whilst remaining with the elements of pop music.

Madison had the idea of using an old newspaper style (like folk) and then also thought of the water splatter idea that I had.

Another idea that Madison thought of was to have a newspaper in a folk style ripped halfway and then a picture of me behind it with colours which I thought was a cool idea.
This is Taylor Swift in a frame with different versions of herself around to show her development and different genres/styles she's gone through.

Logo Plan:

I worked with my brother who has epic design skills.

A spiral represents "spiralling" in anxiety and paranoia which is in reference to what I write about in my songs. I chose purple and pink as these are colours that are found in space to also liken the spiral to a black hole to show an endless cycle or endless possibilities.

Google says that a black hole represents an enormous amount of mass in a small area which could be in reference to having a small following/community that is very loyal and fun.

I tried the logo out on a white and black background and I think it still looks kind of cool on the black background just being highlighted. I chose this text as it has a more handwritten feel (although, I'll probably change it as I'm not entirely happy with it) which is to make it feel more authentic and relatable but also unique in the sense that everybody has a type of handwriting but everyone's is different.

It's important to me to have my name written on my logo because people spell it wrong a lot and this would be a good way for people to remember it.

I also created my logo as a vector and I've done this in order to be able to use my logo in a variety of places. For example, on my website (see image) it would look weird if the logo had a box behind it, blocking the background image. This also means that I can now use my logo for things such as posters, merchandise, business cards etc.

Despite liking the basic design of this logo, I am likely to try it out in more ways that are different to try out a range of colours to see what works best instead of sticking with what came first. I also want to make a more refined version.

Other examples of logos:

Florence and the Machine use this logo which has a high amount of contrast and is simply recognisable by the font of the writing. This image has been used as a vector as it's at the top of their website.

They've used gold to represent their indie rock/pop music style.

Biography:

Do it in 3rd person to be more complimentary.
Do it in first person for it to be more personal.

I prefer to have a more personal feel with my audience.

Past, present, future. Past = music lessons, encouraged by parents, inspired by Dad musical background.
Present = performing at open mics, writing and producing own music. Future = release albums and perform at proper gigs and wider audience but don't lose the personal connection.

I'm Freya Dalgarno and I'm a singer/songwriter from Somerset. I started with music when I was younger when I started having piano and singing lessons and I've more recently learnt how to play the guitar to help with writing songs.

I've been performing often at open mics with the music that I write and produce supported by my father who has a musical background. I really love writing songs and have released three singles. I'm also currently studying a Level 3 Diploma at college.

I plan to release an album in the future of which consists of tracks that I'm proud of. I often post on social media as I hope to grow my audience but without losing the personal connection between artist and listener. I also would love to do more performances of my own material; especially with other musicians.

Emily Feedback:

took to all information
social media links
looked nice with pictures and colour schemes
good spooky logo vibe

I was stuck on how to progress with my website and so I looked to Flo Parker Bombosch's website as she is a past student of Strode College. I also used her biography to help write my own by taking the things she'd said about herself and twisting them to fit with my life. For example, I've tried to adopt the more informal and enthusiastic tone.

Another thing I was stuck on was what to add as I have done things but I wasn't sure what to add and how to do it in a natural way. I used the layout of her website to help, for example, she has a page dedicated to a gallery with pictures of performances and so I did that too. I also used her way of adding gig dates.

Final Logo:

I remade the logo to be neater and I used a darker purple as I think it better compliments the black spiral.

I also changed the font of my name as it looks more professional with a thin, black border and doesn't look as jumbled.

Website Layout:

On the front page, I decided to have a youtube video autoplaying to intrigue people into my music and they can see the way in which I perform my songs.

I also have added the option to listen to one of my songs on the website or there are links to Spotify. I also added links to my social medias and streaming platforms in order for people to be able to explore my music.

I decided to add multiple pages to my website as it is my personal preference to have links to other pages rather than a really long website that has links to take you down to those parts of the page as this is confusing for me and I don't really like the layout.

I have an about page with a picture of me from the Redbrick gig. This is where I've written my about that is above.

I wanted to seem more personal to those reading my website and so I wrote it in first person and whilst being informative, I tried not to sound too robotic and formulaic in the way that I wrote it.

At the bottom of my about page, I also added in a contact which is an email I made specifically for this so I can separate it from all of my other emails. This allows people to contact me for opportunities, questions etc.

Another page I have is "My Work" which showcases the projects I've worked on in the past either collaboratively or as a solo.

The things I've included are my open mics, my releases, the Parish Council Investiture (with Coffee), Coxley Music Festival, Redbrick Building (with Coffee) and being on Radio NineSprings.

For all of these different projects, I made sure to include links to either a youtube video of the performance (in the case of the open mics and the Coxley Music Festival, a compilation) or a post on
social media about the event.

I've done this in order to make it easier for people to further explore and experience the music I do and how I perform and it also acts as a bit of evidence for the things that I am saying which will consequently mean that the reader will trust me more having been able to see the things I've said about.

The next page that I did was about future events that I'm doing in order for readers to know where to go if they want to experience my music live. This is also helpful for getting gigs as it can be a way for people to see if my music/performance is good enough or suitable for an event they might be planning.

There isn't that much on there at the moment but I know I can add to it to add future events and I'll be able to add links to tickets in the future if such an event occurs. I also added links onto the pictures of the posters that take you to a Facebook post about the event and where it is and more details basically. This is to make it easier for readers to find the events.

The final page of my website is a gallery of images from mainly performances that I've done. I've got these images from people who've taken them during the performance, normally (if it's an open mic) the person running the event.

I got the idea to add this to my website from Flo Parker Bombosch's website where she put a gallery of pictures of her performing solo as well as people in her band and her trio.

I kept the theme of blues, purples and pinks to make it into the light-hearted idea of space which is added to with the black hole (spiral) logo which links to the idea of endless possibilities but still have communities gathering in pockets of life. Basically everything and everyone coming together through the gravity of one topic which, in this case, is my music.

I've also changed my social media profile pictures to my logo on a background of the main picture with a faded purple tint (see below).

The picture isn't actually this blurry, it's just because this is a screenshot off of my profile picture on Youtube.

I've also added the full picture below to show this.
